Keith Hackett
Keith Hackett is a former FA Cup Final, First Division and European Championship referee. According to the International Federation of Football History he is widely regarded as one of the 100 best referees of all time.
A Football League Referee from 1976 until 1994, he has had the honour of being both Referee (in 1981) and Senior Linesman (1979) in the FA Cup Final.
Keith has refereed in a number of major finals in English football, also taking charge of 1986 League Cup final between Oxford United and Queens Park Rangers. He also refereed the 1984 Charity Shield between Liverpool and Everton.
Internationally, he has refereed in both the European Championships and Olympic Games; taking charge of West Germany vs Italy at Euro 1988.
He retired as a FIFA referee in 1991, but remained an English top flight referee until 1994 – taking charge of games in the Premier League’s inaugural season. Since retiring from on-field refereeing, he was appointed General Manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Board, the body responsible for match officials in English Professional Football.
Special Guests
This week’s special guests are Roger Dilkes and Mark Halsey.
Regarded as one of the best English referees not to receive FIFA status, Dilkes refereed a number of crucial First Division matches between 1983-1997.
Like Hackett, he was one of the chosen referees for the inaugural Premier League season in 1992-93. Other career achievements include both FA Cup and League Cup semi-finals.
Mark Halsey was a Premier League referee from 1999-2013 and served as a FIFA listed referee between 2000-2006. His career achievements include the 2008 League Cup final and 2007 FA Community Shield.
In 2010, Halsey was diagnosed with cancer – but recovered to return to top flight refereeing. It was due to this, and his wide-respect in the game that Halsey earned a standing ovation from supporters of Manchester City and Norwich at the end of the 2012-13 season, when he announced his retirement from football.
He has since worked as a pundit for BT Sport.
