I commenced my refereeing career in 1960 in Sheffield the City regarded has the home of football.

The oldest club in the World Sheffield Football Club was formed in 1857 and has a special FIFA award recognising the part it played in the history of the Game.

The oldest Football ground is also in Sheffield at Sandygate Road, the home of Hallam Football Club.

The original Sheffield Rules formed the basis of the laws of the game

My first game in Sheffield was a grassroots game between Sheffield United Juniors versus Hillsborough Boys club.

It took place at Intake School and when I blew the final whistle of that game, I had a big smile on my face having enjoyed my participation in a challenging game.
